Asifa Majid is professor of Language, Communication and Cultural Cognition at Radboud University, Nijmegen in The Netherlands. After graduating from her early studies from Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities, Asifa moved to the world leading Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in 2001. Her research investigates the nature of categories and concepts in language, in non-linguistic perception and cognition, and the relationship between them. She adopts a large-scale cross-cultural approach in order to establish which aspects of categorisation are fundamentally shared, and which language-specific.
Asifa has been a visiting scholar in France, Sweden, Germany, Canada and the US, and is the recipient of various scientific awards, including an NWO VICI grant (worth €1.5million), Ammodo KNAW Award (from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences), and is an elected member of The Academy of Europe.@asifa_majid
